Are you still confuse when it comes to the parts of a paragraph? The development of your ideas in a paragraph won’t be effective if you don’t each part. When you were in high school, you were taught that paragraph has three main sections. These are the topic sentence, supporting sentences, and concluding sentence.

Topic sentence holds the main subject or topic of your paragraph.  This sentence should be clear and easy to elaborate. All the sentences after it are the ones that will develop the topic.  Usually, topic sentence is at the beginning of most of the paragraph. However, sometimes, you may find it at the end part.

Supporting sentences are group of sentences that expound your topic sentence. The development of ideas mostly happen here.  One may cite examples, list similarities or differences, or even state a cause and effect of something.  A paragraph with 3-6 supporting sentences is a good standard to follow.

Concluding sentences are the sentences that summarize the entire paragraph. It also serve as a transitions sentence to the next paragraph. You usually find the concluding sentence at the end part of a paragraph.

To sum it all, a paragraph has the following sections such as topic sentence, supporting sentences and concluding sentence. These are all necessary in the development of your ideas. One may right a lot of sentences but not organized.  Knowing how each section functions will be a great help for those who always right at home and in school.

If you want to share you own explanations, I’ll be happy to read it here. Thank you so much for reading.
