"The Story of an Hour" features the brief emotional journey of Louise Mallard in the wake of being told that her husband has died. After learning of her husbands sudden death, Louise Mallard locks herself in her room, where her sadness slowly begins to give way to a new feeling of freedom and energy.
A quick background of the author, Kate Chopin was an American author of short stories and novels based in Louisiana. She is now considered by some scholars to have been a forerunner of American 20th-century feminist authors of Southern or Catholic background, such as Zelda Fitzgerald, and is one of the most frequently read and recognized writers of Louisiana Creole heritage
